The Last Of Us has autosave bug (now fixed)
[Update] Sony have released the following statement on the issue:

“Some players may have been encountering an issue with The Last of Us which affected the autosave feature, which can result in a loss of progress in the single-player campaign. The team at Naughty Dog has been diligently investigating as soon as we heard from our community, and we have determined the cause to be on servers for The Last of Us which were capturing player statistics. We have made a change to ours to address this issue. All players should quit any game in progress out to the XMB and restart The Last of Us. All players can now enjoy single-player and online multiplayer matches as normal. We will continue to monitor forums and social media, and investigate any other issues that may present themselves.”

[Original Story] Many people have been waiting a long time to dive into Naughty Dog’s latest game, but many are also having issues with the autosave system. When you pause the game you can see the status of the game autosaving your progress.

Unfortunately it seems that the game will sometimes never actually save, meaning you will lose progress since the last successful autosave. The game will also not let the player quit to the main menu while this is happening and if you try and quit the game through the XMB, your PS3 will likely reset itself, losing your progress anyway.
Hopefully Naughty Dog will release a fix for this problem soon, the best way to avoid it for now seems to be playing offline and avoiding the patch (1.01) that was released today. The Last Of Us launched today worldwide with a plethora of perfect scores given to the game praising the games story and atmosphere.
